ABBA - Arival
History of ABBA
ABBA's story began in 1966 when Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus met at a Stockholm nightclub. They began writing music together and formed the group Hep Stars in 1972.
In 1970, Björn met his future wife Agnetha Fältskog, who already had a successful solo career. Benny married Anni-Frid Lyngstad, a singer and model from Norway.
In 1972, Benny, Björn, Agnetha, and Anni-Frid entered the Swedish preselection for the Eurovision Song Contest. With the song "Waterloo," they won the competition and became world famous overnight.
Their first single after winning the Eurovision Song Contest, "Waterloo," became a number-one hit in the UK and the US. Their first album, "Waterloo," was also a success, reaching number 1 on the UK charts.
ABBA released a number of other successful albums and singles in the following years, including "Mamma Mia," "Dancing Queen," "Super Trouper," and "The Winner Takes It All." They became one of the most successful pop groups of all time, selling over 400 million records worldwide.
In 1982, ABBA announced their split. Agnetha and Björn divorced in 1979, followed by Benny and Anni-Frid in 1981. ABBA never performed live again, but they released two new studio albums in the 1980s, "The Visitors" (1981) and "Voyage" (2021).
